Animatic

The animatic is now complete!

Screen shots are posted below:

There are still many things I would like to add to this machinima. And it mostly is to do within the chase scene. In the final animation it will contain action moments within the chase such as rock falling, shooting, and crashing.

The animatic is kept well to the proposal except with it's setting. It was mostly because the action in the chase scene I felt was better in the mountains then on a flat terrain.

Overall I feel like I'm going in the right direction with this and will continue to polish. A good reference to what the chase scene might be like is in the Gorillaz music video "Stylo". The setting would obviously be different but the use of camera angles within the music video will be considered for my Machinima.

The Scene

Old Scene

At first I liked the idea of this scene it had two very different contrasts. Desert and Greens. However when looking back at my proposal most of the action is in the driving scenes and when I look back, this scene was kind of boring for action driving so I decided if it ain't going to work start again; and so I did.

New Scene

What I wanted for this new scene was to have hilly roads with bends so it can have some cool drifting and avoidance action. I'm not going to call this the final scene but its a working progress.

Scripting Waypoints

(Red Gismoz) For the character script I created it to allow the user to place waypoints in the scene and allow to it to set its animation to be played and also change the speed of it's movement.

Other cool features i added to this script include, holding time, idle animation, and begin waypoint when triggered.

(Blue Gismoz) The camera script is exactly the same as the animation script however the animation part is removed as well as the start when trigger. Only different thing on this script is the option to allow the camera to move or to skip, making it useful for different cuts.

How these scripts work is fairly easy. For both the character and the camera script they have two separate scripts. One script is attached to the main camera or character and the other scripts is attached to the waypoints. The script attached to the mains has a component where you drag your waypoint into list. In the waypoint script it contains all the options which the user can input, these inputs then get sent to the main script for it to change the character's/camera's variables.

Character is now Rigged!

The character rig created is quite simple. I used set driven keys for the hands and facial animation and have IK handles on bended joints. To orient knees and elbows I used a simple pole vector constrained to a locator.

Machinima - Border Patrol Idea

Title: Border Patrol

Genre: Action/Documentary

Characters:

- Security Guard

- Wanted Animal

Inspirations:

- Mexican Border Security

- Wildlife guards that protect conservations from poachers and tree loggers

- Cops (TV Show)

Style:

- Stylized Realism

Setting:

- African Plains

Plot:

Wanted Animal breaks through the border patrol and the security guard is alerted. The chase scene begins sequence. The guard chases the animal in his vehicle while the animal is running as fast as it can road runner style. The animal gets cornered and surrenders to the guard.

Detailed Story:

The border patrol guard tries to fix his TV so he can watch the sports channel. A animal pest is planning a carefully thought out plan to break into the border. There is no food in the outside and wants to cross the border for a better future. The animal sneaks through the border but trips the alarm. The guard snaps into action picking up his weapon and hops into the patrol car. The animal takes notice of the situation and races off to protected territory. Racing to find a hiding spot, the animal comes in contact with the guard. Knowing that there is no going back now the animal continues its run. The guard peeks out of his side window to take a shot but misses the animal. Racing down the dusty roads the animal gets cornered. The guard now on foot gets a steady aim and shoots, making the animal go to sleep. The animal is then thrown back outside of the protected area to live another day.
